Sectarian tensions: Jinnah’s religion is not the issue, says JI

LAHORE:  Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah was the undisputed leader of the Pakistani nation and he never presented himself as a Shia leader, so MQM chief Altaf Hussain should refrain from doing so, said Jamaat-i-Islami Deputy Secretary General Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha on Thursday.
Piracha was responding to comments made by Hussain on Wednesday. “Aftaf Hussain should spare the Quaid-i-Azam and try not to project him as a disputed personality by terming him Shia,” he said in a press statement.
Piracha said that the killing of any human being, whether a Shia or a Sunni or anyone else, on ethnic grounds or for extortion was inhuman and must be condemned. He said Pakistan’s enemies wanted to divide the country along sectarian lines and Pakistani politicians should avoid playing into their hands.
